Course Summary

The Level 1 Certificate in Automotive Maintenance (Motorsport) offers an exciting introduction to the world of motorsport and light vehicle technology. Designed for those with a passion for cars, racing, and engineering, this course provides a hands-on foundation in the basic principles of vehicle maintenance, repair, and motorsport operations.

You will explore a range of topics including engine components, workshop practices, and the wider motorsport industry, helping you understand the career pathways available. This qualification is the perfect starting point for anyone considering a future in motorsport, offering practical experience and insight into one of the most fast-paced and dynamic industries.

What else do I need to know?

During the course, you will cover topics including:

  • An Introduction to Engineering Equipment and Materials
  • Light Vehicle Systems (Engines, Steering, Suspension, and Braking)
  • Health and Safety
  • An Understanding of Motorsport – linked to the National Motorsport Association

You will also benefit from guest speakers working in the industry and educational visits. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to complete the qualification Earth Week – Tackling the Climate Emergency Level 2.

Alongside your main course, you may also study Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, depending on your current GCSE grades.

To study Motorsport Certificate Level 1 you will need to have 2 GCSEs at grade 2 or above (old GCSE grade E or above) or equivalent, including English or Maths.

The Motorsport Certificate Level 1 will take you 1 year to complete. You will attend college from 9:00am-4:30pm for at least 3 days per week at our Rochford Campus in Boston, plus independent study.

This course is free if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £1500.

You will be assessed via practical assessments, presentations, coursework and exams.

Successful completion of the Motorsport Certificate Level 1 opens doors to exciting opportunities in both further education and career opportunities in the motorsport sector. Students who achieve this qualification can progress onto Level 2 Motorsport courses, where they will expand their knowledge and practical skills.
