EMAT Centre

The EMAT Centre forms part of the College's Institute of Technology and provides outstanding Engineering facilities for students and an industry-driven training facility that stimulates growth and productivity across the sector.聽

The centre's facilities include two engineering workshops that provide space for traditional and modern design, maintenance and manufacturing techniques, a CAD suite, three classrooms, and a break-out space.

鈥淚 have always struggled with my dyslexia and have never been understood by the teachers before but coming to 天美视频 has shown me that I am capable of more than I thought, and that is mainly due to the understanding of the staff. I know that currently there are many females in this industry, but it is still looked at as a man鈥檚 world, but with what we are doing it can show younger girls that it is their choice. And that the world is a lot more accepting of the idea of women engineers than they think, and that they should reach for the stars.鈥�

鈥淚鈥檝e always been interested in how things are designed and work, so I knew I wanted to study Engineering. The new EMAT Centre at 天美视频 is tailored to engineering, so we have all the industry standard equipment we need. The course encourages you to be independent, at the beginning of the year our lecturers provide us with a project briefing and a deadline for us to complete the work by 鈥� which really prepares you for how the industry works.

If we do need any support or help, the lecturers are always available, and they all have industry experience, which is great.鈥�

Daily Tasks

  • Erects, installs, repairs and services plant and industrial machinery, including railway stock, textile machines, coin operated machines, locks, sewing machines, bicycles and gas and oil appliances.
  • Examines operation of, and makes adjustments to internal combustion engines and motor vehicles.
  • Fits and assembles, other than to fine tolerances, prepared parts and sub-assemblies to make motor vehicles, printing and agricultural machinery, orthopaedic appliances and other metal goods.
  • Fits and assembles parts and/or metal sub-assemblies to fine tolerances to make marine engines, prototype metal products, agricultural machinery and machine tools.
  • Examines drawings and specifications to determine appropriate methods and sequence of operations.
